Winners of CleanTech Challenge competition 2016 Academic – ‘ CleanTech for Sustainable Cities’
We are pleased to announce that the CleanTech Challenge 2016 Winners are: UpSource!
The prize was awarded by municipality’s Councillor Caroline Andersson (S) at the enterprise meeting Vakna Uppsala at Congress and Concert hall in Uppsala.
UpSource is a Resource Management Application aiming to divert unnecessary food waste by connecting consumers to the retail sector as well as allowing consumers to share food to reduce the high levels of household food waste. Their solution uses the UpSource app to develop and encourage citizen participation through a circular economic model that contributes towards building more sustainable communities.
This year the CleanTech Challenge was expanded nationwide and received 24 entries from the academic sector representing all parts of Sweden. Our 14 finalists were judged by a selected panel of actors from the academic, private and public sectors; and new this year, by a public vote where we received 564 votes through CTC website.
UpSource was judged to have a total average of 4,03 pts on an evaluation scale from 1 (not good) to 5 (very good).
With the theme for this years competition being ‘Sustainable Cities’ the entries received used innovative solutions that covered a wide area of topics related to sustainable development – from face recognition to reduce emissions to gamification that encourage growing vegetables at home. There was a high standard of entries with Flow Connect, Just Us and The Hybrid Energy Floor also scoring well and proving that there are many great CleanTech solutions within the academic sector, some of which had already had prototypes tested.
As the eventual winners, UpSource will now travel to London to compete in the European CleanTech Challenge Boot Camp alongside our European partners for the £10,000 development prize.

Next year the competition will be have a wider target audience as we search beyond the borders of Sweden for the best CleanTech solutions in Europe as well as inviting start-ups and small businesses to join the academic sector in entering a submission for the CleanTech Challenge 2017 Competition.
More information for this competition will be released soon.
